Frequently asked question

What are the different types of cartridges available

“Genuine” - Also known as "Original Equipment Manufacturer" or "OEM"

Compatible - Also known as "Generic" or "Alternative Brand"

Re-manufactured - Also known as re-cycled or re-used

OEM -These are manufactured by (or for) printer manufacturers. Manufacturers offer certain guarantees when you use their brand of ink or toner in your printer and make certain threats if you don't. Voiding warranty is a typical accusation made, although in many countries this is illegal. OEM cartridges are more expensive than refills, compatibles or re-manufactured cartridges.

Compatible - These cartridges are manufactured from scratch. They are produced by a third party companies and sold under different brand names. Often compatible cartridges may vary slightly in look, design and page yield to their OEM counterparts due to certain patents that restrict the exact copying of designs. Some might say these generic cartridges are less reliable, they are undoubtedly a cost-effective alternative.

Re-manufactured - A process by which the OEM cartridge is dismantled after the toner runs out. However, most working parts are perfectly intact. Any worn or defective components are replaced and the cartridge is cleaned, and then refilled with new and not recycled toner.

What is a remanufactured Toner Cartridge

Remanufactured toner cartridge is a printer consumable supplied with a laser printer. It contains the toner powder and a photo-sensitive drum that partners with the printer to produce the desired printout. It is usually produced by a third party manufacturer that recycles used original toner cartridges.
However, before these cartridges are filled with toner and packaged for selling, several procedures are done to maintain the quality of the products. Remanufactured cartridge makers normally claim different benefits from using remanufactured printer supplies such as savings on costs, resources, energy and nature. Quite often the consumable capacity is greater which leads to longer life.

recyEach brand new toner cartridge requires the burning of over 2 quarts of petroleum in the manufacturing process. In North America alone, more than 200 million liters of petroleum are used to sustain the production of new toner cartridges with the majority of these cartridges ending up in the worlds landfills once empty.
Advocates of more environmentally friendly processes claim that using refilled and remanufactured toner cartridges are much more environmentally friendly than using brand name new cartridges. Refilled and remanufactured cartridges reduce the dependency on petroleum that otherwise would have been used in the manufacture process of the new cartridge.
